‘It Takes Two to Tango’ – Is There a Need for New Practices in the Universities?

NESTA and UCL held a joint symposium entitled ‘Responsible Innovation and the Role of Universities’ on 16th March 2017. It challenged many traditional practices and suggested that some are indeed‘broken’. The author attended this and reflects on a previous provocative presentation of his relating to the contemporary concern for the ‘impact’ of research activity in the Universities outside academia. He proposes that Professional Bodies should have a greater involvement in assessing University research outcomes; and there is a need for a CERC – Creative Economy Research Council having more empathy with the creative industries; and that all University students should have to do an ‘art & design’ module to pass their Honours Degrees.
